I AM THAT I AM
TEXT: EXODUS 3:11-18
KEY VERSE: “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you” (Exodus 3:14).
God sent Moses to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to demand the release of the children of Israel from bondage. Moses considered himself not capable for the task.
Two problems were before him; dealing with Pharaoh and also with the children of Israel. But the greater problem was with the children of Israel. How should he convince them to leave Egypt?
Thus, he needed to know God’s Name so that he would tell the children of Israel Who had sent him. He asked for God’s Name, and God gave His Name as ‘I AM THAT I AM’.
This explains His Name Jehovah, and signifies that He is self-existent. He does not depend on any other. God exists by Himself, and He is self-sufficient. He is eternal (He has no beginning and no end, He exists forever). He is unchangeable; He is the same God yesterday, today and forever. No one can search Him out.
He is the Almighty, the Holy One, the Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient God. Everlasting God is His Name. Do you know God as the I AM? Surrender to Him today and He will show Himself mighty on your behalf.
PRAYER: Teach me to know and appreciate Who You are, and make Yourself real in my life.
