DOES IT PLEASE GOD?

TEXT: JUDGES 14:1-7

Key Verse: “Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well” (Judges 14:3).

Samson was a special child. His conception was special. He had a special assignment, and he was also endowed with a special ability. But this special servant of God lacked self-control. He did not have control over his affections and emotions.

The woman Samson chose to marry pleased him well, but did not please God. His decision was a direct disobedience to God’s command and to his parents.
God had warned that His people should not marry ungodly people. Why should a child of God be pleased to go against God’s will? His disobedience caused his defeat and shameful death. This is a lesson for every child today; do not disobey God.

When you desire something that is against the word of God, you must beware. Samson’s godly parents warned him, but he insisted on pleasing himself and having his way. The lessons here are:

(i) In all your desires and decisions, you must do the will of God and not please yourself.

(ii) Avoid bad habits and desires which displease God.

(iii) Seek to know and do the will of God at all times.

(iv) Be careful of your choices; in the friends you make, the places you go to, the books you read, the things you watch, the internet sites you browse, and the types of things you desire.

(v) Accept correction and listen to the counsel of your godly parents and teachers. As you please God and do His will, He will bless you abundantly.

Prayer: Lord, please give me the grace to do only the things which please You.
