Topic: Handling Wealth
READ JOB 1:1–5
In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil (Job 1:1).
Job was a man of great wealth, but he also had a great desire to please God. It’s extremely rare for someone to have both of those qualities. All too often, wealth lures people into thinking that their superior wisdom and skills are the things that gained them such great riches.
However, Job knew his vast wealth wasn’t the result of his wisdom and skills. They were blessings sent down from heaven—gifts God chose to send His humble servant.
At the same time, though, Job seemed keenly aware of wealth’s power to corrupt the soul. For that reason, he not only chose to humble himself, he went to great lengths to make sure his children’s souls remained sanctified before the Lord.
God has blessings for each of His followers’ lives. Some are financial, but most tend to come other ways. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking the good things in life are the result of your work, but a focus on God’s generosity is necessary for a proper perspective on life.
Challenge for Today: Stand firm against worldly corruption by humbly acknowledging God’s blessings.
